Sèvres Then and Now showcases the longstanding achievements of the French porcelain factory, in particular, its unparalleled invention and creativity over three centuries. Featuring an assemblage of over 80 international loan objects as well as pieces from Hillwood’s own renowned collection, many of which have never been published before, this vibrant volume juxtaposes the earliest Sèvres pieces with the cutting-edge works of the 21st century.

Three informative essays by Liana Paredes, former Hillwood curator and organizer of the exhibition, discuss the continuous innovation in both production and design that has been the hallmark of ceramics at the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory from the 1750s to the early years of the 21st century. The publication is illustrated with 240 color images, with a wide range of full-size plates, details, marks, and other comparative illustrations.

Liana Paredes was the senior curator of Western European Art at Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens in Washington, DC.
